After a brilliant season, Phillippe Gilbert awarded as Sportsman of the Year in Belgium. Gilbert, won the price ahead of world 400 meters bronze medalist Kevin Borlee.

Gilbert won Amstel Gold Race, La Flèche Wallonne, Montepaschi Strade Bianche, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and Clásica de San Sebastián classics this year. He won the opening stage and wore the green, yellow and red dots jersey in the Tour de France.
